City of Santa Cruz & Community Action Board- Emergency Eviction Prevention
About
The Economic Development Department of the City of Santa Cruz is partnering with Community Action Board of Santa Cruz County, Inc. (CAB) to market and administer an Emergency Eviction Prevention Program. The program is funded with HOME funding and CDBG-CV funding. Grant funds may be used to assist with payment of past due rent, incurred on or after April 1st, 2020. A maximum of two month’s assistance is available for those who need it and are eligible with a monthly limit not to exceed $2,500 or a total limit of $5,000 total per household. The emergency housing assistance will be paid directly to the landlord on behalf of the household.
Eligibility
Resident of City of Santa Cruz with housing unit located in City of Santa Cruz
Low income – (A minimum of 90% of grant funds must assist those at 60% Area Median Income (AMI) or below and up to 10% can help those at 61%-80% AMI)
Experienced a loss or reduction of income due to COVID-19
Have past due rent with no alternate means to pay
Application – Waitlist Lottery
To ensure equal access to all those in need, names will be placed on the waitlist in a randomized order after applications have been received from all sources. Duplicate entries will be removed.
Applications will be accepted July 13th - July 24th. The waitlist may reopen if funds remain after all eligible households on the list are assisted.
The applications will be processed beginning in August 2020 and until funds are expended.
Additional documentation will be collected to verify eligibility such as: documentation of reduction of income (recent pay stubs, unemployment records, letter from employer), proof of residence such as: utility bills, phone bill, magazines, etc., proof of past due rent, copies of lease or rental agreement.
